새터민이란? What is [sae to min]?

북한이탈주민은 조선민주주의인민공화국에서 이탈한 주민을 가리킨다. 흔히 탈북자(脫北者) 또는 새터민이라고 부른다. <wikipedia.org에서 발췌>

1. 메자닌아이팩 [Mezzanine I-Pack]

2008년 12월에 설립된 메자닌아이팩은 정부, 재단 및 기업의 지원을 통해 탄생한 새터민을 위한 사회적 기업입니다. 주요 제품으로는 와인 및 화장품 포장박스와 같은 종이재질의 박스를 제조 판매하고 있으며 약 30여명의 새터민이 고용되어 2009년 21억 3천만원의 매출을 올리기도 하였습니다. 매자닌아이팩에 고용된 직원의 대부분이 새터민, 취약계층, 40~50대 여성으로 2009년 사회적 기업(고용노동부)으로 인증받았습니다.

Mezzanine I-Pack, founded in December 2008, is a social enterprise to support sae to min, with a support from the government, foundation, and corporations. The main product is paper box which is used to pack wine, cosmetics and such. It employees approximately 30 sae to min, and   reported 2,130 million Korean won of sales in 2009. The major employees of Mezzanine I-Pack are sae to min, people from vulnerable bracket, and women in their 40s and 50s. It obtained certification of social enterprise from Ministry of Employment & Labor in 2009.

2. 메자닌에코원 [Mezzanine Ecowon]

2009년 3월 경기도 파주시에 설립된 메자닌에코원은 메자닌아이팩의 비즈니스모델을 그대로 참고하여 블라인드, 우드블라인드와 같은 상품을 제조 판매하고 있습니다. 메자닌에코원 또한 20여명의 새터민을 고용하여 사회적 기업으로 인증받았습니다.

Established in Paju, Gyeonggi province in March 2009, Mezzanine Ecowon benchmarked and applied business model of Mezzanine I-Pack. Ecowon produces and sells roll screen, wood blind and such. It was also certificated as a social enterprise for its employment of 20 sae to min.

3. 고마운손 [Grateful Hands]

국내 패션산업 경쟁력강화와 취약계층 고용창출을 목적으로 설립한 ‘사회공헌기업(보건복지가족부)’으로서, 패션잡화의 제조 판매를 사업영역으로 하여 2009년 6월 설립 되었으며 회사 이익의 50%를 사회에 기부하기로 되어 있습니다.

Established with a mission to enhance domestic fashion industry’s competitiveness and to boost the employment of the socially underprivileged, Grateful Hands is a social contribution corporate (Ministry for Health and Wealfare) which manufactures and sells fashion accessories. It was founded in June 2009, and it contributes 50% of the corporate profits to society.

4. 평양예술단 [Pyongyang Art Troupe]

평양예술단의 단원들은 북한에서 예술활동을 했던 예술인들로 구성 되어있으며, 한국예술위원회와 서울문화재단의 적극적인 협조와 지원하에 전국 각 지역들에서 진행하는 지역축제, 시민행사, 음악회 등에서 공연하고 있습니다.

Pyongyang art troupe comprises of professional artists who performed in North Korea. Under the strong sponsorship and cooperation from Arts Council Korea and Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, Pyongyang Art Troupe is performing at various local festivals and concerts.

5. 송도에스이 [Songdo SE]

POSCO에 의해 설립된 송도에스이는 POSCO 및 관련사 신축빌딩의 청소와 주차관리 서비스를 제공하고 있으며 2010년 사회적 기업(고용노동부)으로 인증받았습니다. 송도에스이는 새터민 및 저소득층 등 사회취약계층 약 100여명을 고용하고 있으며 가장 많은 새터민(35명, 2010년 기준)이 근무하고 있습니다.

Established by POSCO, Songdo SE provides cleaning and parking management services to POSCO and related corporations. It received social enterprise certification in 2010 from Ministry of Employment and Labor. Songdo SE currently hires approximately 100 employees from socially vulnerable class, including 35 sae to min (in year 2010).

6. 블리스앤블레스 [Bliss&Bless]

서울시 명동에 위치한 커피숍 블리스앤블레스는 탈북 청년들을 바리스타로 양성하여 약 8명의 새터민 바리스타가 근무하고 있습니다. 기존 새터민 관련 일자리가 단순 노동직에 집중된 반명 블리스앤블레스는 서비스업이라는 점이 특징입니다. 2009년 5월 서울형 사회적 기업 인증을 받았습니다.

Bliss&Bless is a café located in Myungdong, Seoul. You can taste good taste coffee served by educated teenage baristas who came from North Korea. Considering the fact that majority of sae to min were absorbed in repetitive manual job markets, Bliss&Bless has its distinctive characteristic as a service oriented corporate. It was certified as a social enterprise in May, 2009.

7. 나무야가구야 [Na-mu-ya Ga-gu-ya]

새터민들에게 안정된 일자리를 제공하는 것을 목표로하는 새터민 가구 공방 나무야가구야는 광주전남 북한이주민센터에서 운영하고 있습니다. 새터민 3명을 포함한 17명이 사업에 참여하여 가구 제작부터 설계, 영업 등을 배우고 있습니다. 교육이 끝나면 생산 현장에 투입될 예정이며 현재 자체매장은 없지만 위탁교육이 완료되는 대로 자체 공장과 매장을 마련할 계획입니다.

Run by Center for North Korean Defectors in Gwang-ju, Jeollanam-do, this corporation aims to provide stable jobs to sae to min. As a wood furniture manufacturer, it educates 17 employees with furniture production, design, sales and such. When the education is finished, they are scheduled to embark on the furniture production. Although it does not have its own store yet, it is expected to build its own factories and stores as soon as the commissioned education is   completed.

8. 류경옥 [Ryu-Kyung-ok]

류경옥은 평양온명, 함흥냉명과 같은 북한의 전통음식을 파는 북한음식전문점입니다. 서울형 사회적 기업으로 새터민들에게는 고향의 향수를 달래줄뿐 아니라 북한의 설 음식과 차례상을 현지 모습 그대로 재현해 북한의 생활상을 볼 수 있는 기회를 제공하고 있습니다.

Ryu-Kyung-ok is a traditional North Korean food restaurant. You will have a precious chance to try North Korea’s ancestral rites food, and you might also take a glimpse of ordinary North Korean people’s life. For sae to min themselves, they often visit here to soothe their homesick.
